Tech Support

Wow, haven't been on here in a while. Between DailyBooth, YouTube, and tweeting, I just don't really have anything else to say that's worth blogging about. Not that this one's really all that great, but I just feel like ranting.

One of the few things that I recognize I'm good at is fiddling with technology. At least, more than the average person. And especially more than the average teenaged girl.

Most of my peers are just not good with technology. The extent of their skills are using Microsoft Word, the Internet, and iTunes. And my friends who are better at computers than that are only that. They're good with computers, nothing else. Now me, I like playing with all sorts of technology. I know bits and bobs about cameras, camcorders, computers, speakers, headphones, phones, iPods, etc.

Now, a few people, especially my roommates, have already experienced me assisting them with their computers. They know I'm at least fairly decent at it, and know my way around the workings of the computer. Yet, when my roommate had iPod troubles she refused to believe I knew what I was talking about. Even when I was offering detailed explanations of what exactly I'm telling her to do, does, she refused to believe me, and instead believed some other girl who has the same tech skills as her. Essentially, not very much. Obviously, her iPod wasn't going to start working, and she even believed that her 2 month old MacBook Pro was broken at one point. Holy Fuck.

Don't ask for my tech support help, and then not believe me, then come crawling back. Next time you have issues, I'm not helping.

Political Apathy

With the UK elections coming to a close, I've got even more respect for some young people that post YouTube videos and all that kind of stuff online, and it makes me think even more about political apathy.

I live in Southern California and it seems my peers here have some of the most apathetic attitudes in the world. And it's not just apathy about politics even, it's apathy about everything except lazing around the beach and having fun. People don't care about what happens in the country, don't even bring up anything about the world, and higher education or their future is definitely not on their minds. It's so frustrating!

But for the past couple of weeks, I've been seeing some popular British YouTubers posting videos online encouraging their peers to register and vote. Not only did they do that, but they covered the whole election, or explained their governmental system so locals and foreigners can understand it, and they did so trying to not insert too much of their own opinions or who their voting for so as not to influence their viewers (wow that was a long sentence). I think that's awesome! Young people encouraging other young people to participate in the governing of their world in a responsible manner; why don't we ever see that on the news instead of just constant bashing of young people?

Since the '08 presidential election in the US, the hullabaloo over politics has died down quite a bit here in the US and it's just sad. Adults go back to their "busy schedule" creating excuses not to follow up on politics and current events, while the kids have even more excuses to not care. Still, knowing there are young people all around the world who do pay attention, who do care, who actually go out and do something about it gives me hope, and makes me proud of my generation, despite all the "oh-what-will-our-future-be-like-with-these-apathetic-teenagers" bashing from older generations.

Hello! I'm just starting to actually try some blogging. I doubt I'll do this everyday since my life's not so interesting that I will be able to write those huge, long, essays everyday and make them actually bearable to read. Plus, I use sites like twitter, DailyBooth, YouTube, etc where I already post bits of my day up. Therefore, it's a bit difficult to post up new things on here. I just figured I'd get one since I already read some people's blogs anyway.

I've got a few vlogs up on YouTube, so you can check me out at www.youtube.com/xSoupyTwist. I'm not that great at them yet, but hopefully they'll get more entertaining as I get better at them. As mentioned before, I'm also on DailyBooth. I post on there daily, and I've been able to keep my streak going for 96 days (or 97, I forget).

I'm currently a senior in high school and in the midst of AP testing, but I'll be going to college soon and will be majoring in Molecular Cell Biology (which will be referred to as MCB from now on). I'm really excited about that.

A little bit about me. I can't legally drive yet, but I love riding bicycles. I enjoy discussing politics, and I feel that more of my peers should pay attention about current events. That's the thing I love about YouTube. It seems a lot more of the popular YouTubers (who are also teenagers/young people) are much more into politics than the general population, and they try to get people to pay closer attention to it. I find that to be fantastic. I've played piano since the age of 5 and have hated it. But now that I'm actually done with the curriculum and can play whatever I want, I love it. I've dabbled in a few other instruments as well. I can do martial arts, and play a little golf.
